Sundari Kannal...

Thalapathi - A Maniratnam flick based on the friendship between Duryodana and Karna from the epic - Mahabharata. Except Karna lives in this movie, given its played by the great Thalaivar (Rajnikanth). Maestro IR's last collaboration with Maniratnam... and the song 'Rakamma Kaiya Thattu' is one of  BBC's top ten in the world music category.

Sundari Kannal is a romantic melody. For a song that lasts upto 7 minutes, this never bores any IR fan.  It has two beautiful interludes set in the mood of war.... Balu and Janaki as usual..at their best. The male portions of the song is set at almost the same scale through out.. where as the female portions starts at a lower note and hits higher registers in charanams, and thats the beauty of this composition! There is also a sad instrumental (BGM) version of this number that one should never miss... it is to die for... you can catch it here.

On the visuals.. one must definitely mention Shobana.. boy, wasn't she a treat to watch!!  On a lighter note, these days, I get reminded of 'Body-Studa from Pokkiri' seeing Thalaivar in that attire :)

Back to recording it... "Sernthathe nam jeevane..." is our fav line... I was in cloud 9 singing it, and so was Revathi.

This was requested by my friend Suri, so here you go!

Hope you all like it!
