Back in 2004, I was in the initial training phase with Infosys-Bangalore. Training in Infosys is like going back to college and getting paid for it. And I am serious - it’s a wholesome fun package except for compre exams :) We used to hang out in groups, chat over coffee, go out in weekends and what not. I used to hang out with different groups here and there. One such gang decided to bunk sessions and watch this movie. And yes, Revathi was my project mate then and I am talking about her gang here. And she insisted that I went with them. I wasn’t too particular about watching any movie for some reason then…. But in the course of convincing me, she literally turned off my computer, collected my bag and walked out. Now I had to go. Till then I didn’t know what movie it was. Apparently it was Pithamagan. I am not so much of a guy watching movies based on reviews. I have seen many crappy movies in theater and at the same time have missed out few good ones. And I can watch worst movies for good back ground scores (I’ll give you for-instance – Indru Poi Nalai Vaa – its one of the sloppiest movies ever made but for the BGM of Pon Vaanam… I’ve watched it several times) So to sum it up, I went to the theater with absolutely no expectations. With Piraiye & Elangathu songs…I was dumb struck. Especially with Elangathu, I was absolutely mesmerized by the melody of the song. The scenes leading to this song made it even more beautiful. I could not think of anything else except for that song for days to come.
But with compre exams and much to add Bangalore’s hustle, I never really clung on to this song as I normally would. Then some of us in the group were transferred to the office based in Mysore – for a real job :) Mysore is such a beautiful place. It’s serene... in comparison with Bangalore, it was quite, and I loved the new place. It rains often which makes it even more beautiful. Then came this vacuous “bench” period, and we simply didn’t have anything to do. That lasted for a good long 4 months. So the routine turned to office-music-food-tea-music-food-tea-home :) and in due time, my intentions for Revathi changed as well. So then I was crazy about this song. And it reminds me of the countless hours of talk/sms/chat I had with her then.
Back to reality, let us know how you like our cover version of this melody.
